Scitech-EKIUM wins Best Cleanroom Design at Cleanroom Technology Awards 2026

Award

The Cleanroom Technology Awards celebrate outstanding achievement across cleanroom design, operation and technology. This year’s Best Cleanroom Design Award recognises excellence in the planning, design and implementation of cleanroom facilities – and we are proud that our work at GSTT was selected from what was a highly competitive field.

About the project

GSTT required an expansion of its Advanced Therapy Manufacturing Platform (CRF GMP Unit) to increase clinical trial manufacturing capacity for cell and gene therapies. Scitech-EKIUM delivered the project from concept through to detailed design and managed construction, incorporating new Grade A processing and two ISO Class 7 cleanrooms – all within a fully operational hospital environment on the 15th floor.

The design prioritised flow-led GMP layout, bio-decontamination-ready rooms, enhanced environmental control and a flexible two-mode operational configuration to support future capability growth. The expanded facility supports up to a 60% increase in production capacity for Investigational Medicinal Products and Specials for patients on clinical trials.

Shaun Cochrane, Deputy Director R&D (Operations) at GSTT, said:
“We are incredibly proud of the facility. It is a cutting-edge environment that will play a significant role in advancing patient care and treatment for years to come.”

This award is a reflection of the expertise, dedication and collaborative spirit of everyone involved in the project – both our own team and our partners at GSTT.
